Derp walkers

Did you know that loons are horrible walkers? Their legs are set so far back on their bodies that it makes walking extremely difficult. They use their legs more to push their bodies along or just above the ground, as seen in the video above. Because of this, they build their nests right next to the water, and sleep over deep water far away from land predators.

They more than make up for this awkwardness underwater as the leg placement on their bodies makes them excellent swimmers, adept at chasing and catching fish for food.
